Elio

Elio was a lot better than originally anticipated. Coming into this I had low expectations due to the lack of marketing and the disappointment in the opening box office, but I was pleasantly surprised. A story that is genuinely interesting and hits on a deeper level, as Pixar films usually do, this one does do exactly what it needs to do, a fun theme of space and Aliens, mixed with the humanity of Loneliness and meaning in life. At first It was taking a while for me to get interested due to Elio being slightly annoying as a protagonist, but as we have to remember he’s just a kid and doesn’t know any better, an he learns and grows as a character as the film goes on quite beautifully. The animation is really fantastic in this too, the visuals in space and of earth is striking and Pixar do out do themselves, however the animation of the people in the recent Pixar films is lazy and not to my taste, every Pixar films usually have different looking human characteristics, but now they all are animated the same sadly. The Characters are very realistic and down to earth, despite being in space, Elio just wants to be wanted and fears that he may be the problem of his loneliness, where as his Auntie believes she could have had a different life, but wanted to do anything she could do for Elio. All over this film is the feeling of family too, what it means to love your guardians and kids, Glordon ends with the love of his father and Elio ends with the love of his Auntie, its really moving. The run time does help this film too, only at just over 90 minutes and it doesn’t over stay it’s welcome, its a shame that this will be a unsuccessful venture for Pixar, as im sure this will be a film people come to love once it’s on Disney + in a few months, potentially being one that people will show their kids in the future!
