Mission: Impossible - The Final reckoning
Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning was such a fantastic experience to watch in a IMAX theatre. As per usual the scale of this film was extremely high, the biggest threat and some bonkers action and stunt work that leave you in awe. Tom Cruise goes above and beyond with his plane stunt and swimming through the submarine, some incredible work. It was 3 hours of on the edge of your set story with nukes being threatened to be fired at any moment. I think Dead Reckoning really set it up nicely and told us exactly to expect. Visually this film was fantastic, emotionally, it hit many notes and as per the Ensemble cast were brilliant from Simon Pegg to Hayley Atwell. I did actually like the ending too, i will not spoil it, but i did enjoy how they left things concluded yet open ended at the same time
I just have a few issues that leave me unsatisfied with this being the last ever Mission film. I think coming out of this film made me realise that Gabriel was a weak Villain who was just the Entity’s lacky, while the Entity was a threat, i fear it lacked being a human and not seeing the threat left me feeling less compelled as the last few films. I felt that where Dead Reckoning left off, they set the story straight and it seemed like we would get a nice storyline going into Final Reckoning but they very much over complicated everything, adding new devices and story elements that made me feel a bit lost. The main issue I have is the lack of Rebecca Ferguson. I understand her death in the last film, but the emotional weight would have been higher if she was in the place of Hayley Atwell, if we had a character that we had spent more time with and actually connected with rather than someone who had only been in one film at this point, it would have hit so much harder.
But all in all, this film was full of high highs, but had many lows considering it was the last film. Please still go and watch this movie as I do think it is still a massive achievement in film, and such a fun experience especially in IMAX. I will always miss new Mission: Impossible films coming out, but I can’t wait to see what’s next for Tom Cruise as im sure he will be doing even more stunts in plenty of his new projects
